A Way Out is one of the Lead Partners within the Adult Sexual Exploitation Partnership (ASEP) alongside organisations from across the North East and Yorkshire including, Changing Lives, GROW, Together Women, Basis, WomenCentre, Ashiana and the Angelou Centre. As a partnership, we work together and meet requests to influence change to policy and practice at local and national levels, to systemically improve outcomes for women and girls.

Through our involvement in this partnership, we have been able to employ a Project Worker to provide support for women who are currently experiencing, have experienced, or are at risk of sexual exploitation in the Stockton, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Hartlepool areas.

Our support is person centred, which means that we are led by the women we work with and move at their pace, and trauma informed which means that we work to ensure we do not put our service users in a position which could result in them being further traumatised as they work towards freedom from exploitation and into their future. Building and nurturing secure relationships is fundamental to our role. Trust can be difficult for some women to establish due to their previous experiences.

Our Project Worker works closely with statutory services, including social care, safeguarding and housing, and other charitable organisations around the individual to ensure the best care for the women we work with. We conduct one to one appointments which range from supporting women to access services, attending court with women as required, and accompanying women to our weekly drop in session to take part in activities in a supportive and safe environment. We also provide women with food and hygiene parcels as needed.
