SARAH - Support Advice Recovery And Healing

SARAH has one main aim: To break the chains of slavery amongst women in the UK through support, advice, recovery and Healing.

But what do we mean when we say "Slavery"?

A dictionary definition of slavery is this "a person entirely under the domination of some influence or person".

In the UK, women are finding themselves trapped in situations and lifestyles that they are unable to escape from. "Entirely under domination".

For the SARAH project, we recognise this to be the following:

  • Sexual exploitation and prostitution (inlcuding those who have been trafficked)
  • Alcohol and drug addiction
  • Eating disorders
  • Self harm

Our project aims to bring freedom to young women trapped in these situations through support, advice, recovery and healing.

Our work involves:

  • Street and community based outreach
  • Road shows offering information and awareness
  • Prevention and support
  • Structured recovery and healing programmes
  • Supported referals and signposting

Personal Development for Young People

Commissioned through schools and education authorities, we deliver personal development programmes for young people failing in main stream school.  Our programmes aim to provide PSHE and therapeutic support to young people with challenging behaviours or emotional difficulties.

Vulnerable Boys and Young Men's Prevention Project

Our prevention project has one aim of improving health and well being of vulnerable boys and young men.

Often young men find themselves vulnerable for a number of reasons such as homelessness, abuse, bullying, substance misuse and social exclusion.  We have developed a project that works with these young men offering support, advice and group work to health them live, safer, fuller and healthier lives.

The project offers:

  • Homeless outreach
  • Screening and assessment
  • One to one prevention and support
  • Structured social inclusion and life skills programmes
  • Healthy and recreational activities
  • Supported referrals and signposting
