Drop In Cafe Worker Apprenticeship
28 Hours per week - £6.22 p/h
You will be working within a café for women and young people generally between the ages of sixteen and twenty five who are experiencing various problems associated with poor mental health, social exclusion, addictive lifestyles in particularly drug misuse and alcoholism.
Responsible to the Drop in cafe manager, duties will include implementing activities that meet projects objectives primarily, assisting in the running of a drop in café for women and young people, serving food and drinks and acting as a mentor and befriender to other women and young people.
Mostly between the hours of 12 and 7pm.
Your main duties will include:
- Assisting in the running of a weekly drop in cafe
- Working within the café serving the general public
- Planning and preparing food & drinks
- Providing one to one support and mentoring
- Offering client support, advice and encouragement
Extra responsibilities:
- Carry out some administration duties
- Carry out general housekeeping duties
- May occasionally help implement various user group forums, consultations and feedback sessions
Personal Specifications and Requirements
The applicant should have some experience in support work either as a peer volunteer, volunteer or paid position.
Some café / hospitality work experience would also be beneficial and should be demonstrated through previous roles.
Training related to the role would also be beneficial (such as drugs awareness, youth work, mentoring, food hygiene, catering etc)
The applicant must have exceptional interpersonal skills, they must be able to work independently and as part of a team. They must be good at following instructions but also demonstrate initiative. The applicant must be able to demonstrate the ability to work with women and young people with various mental health and emotional problems effectively and efficiently.
They must also be able to cook and prepare a meal and have some knowledge of food hygiene, food preparation and health and safety.
This work is not nine till five work, it will mostly be late afternoons and evenings. The applicant must show dedication, enthusiasm and commitment.
